10 Summoning His 12 disciples, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every[a] disease and sickness. These are the names of the 12 apostles:
First, Simon, who is called Peter,
and Andrew his brother;
James the son of Zebedee,
and John his brother;
Philip and Bartholomew;[b]
Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;
James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;[c]
Simon the Zealot,[d] and Judas Iscariot,[e]
who also betrayed Him.

Mark 3:13-19Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

The 12 Apostles

13 Then He went up the mountain and summoned those He wanted, and they came to Him. 14 He also appointed 12—He also named them apostles[a]—to be with Him, to send them out to preach, 15 and to have authority to[b] drive out demons.
16 He appointed the Twelve:[c]

To Simon, He gave the name Peter;
17 and to James the son of Zebedee,
and to his brother John,
He gave the name “Boanerges”
(that is, “Sons of Thunder”);
18 Andrew;
Philip and Bartholomew;
Matthew and Thomas;
James the son of Alphaeus,
and Thaddaeus;
Simon the Zealot,[d]
19 and Judas Iscariot,[e]
who also betrayed Him.

Luke 6:12-16Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

The 12 Apostles

12 During those days He went out to the mountain to pray and spent all night in prayer to God.13 When daylight came, He summoned His disciples,and He chose 12 of them—He also named them apostles:

14 Simon, whom He also named Peter,
and Andrew his brother;
James and John;
Philip and Bartholomew;
15 Matthew and Thomas;
James the son of Alphaeus,
and Simon called the Zealot;
16 Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Matthew 10:5-15Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Jesus sent out these 12 after giving them instructions: “Don’t take the road leading to other nations, and don’t enter any Samaritan town.Instead, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.As you go, announce this: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, drive out demons.You have received free of charge; give free of charge. Don’t take along gold, silver, or copper for your money-belts. 10 Don’t take a traveling bag for the road, or an extra shirt, sandals, or a walking stick, for the worker is worthy of his food.
11 “When you enter any town or village, find out who is worthy, and stay there until you leave. 12 Greet a household when you enter it, 13 and if the household is worthy, let your peace be on it. But if it is unworthy, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that house or town. 15 I assure you: It will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

Mark 6:6-13Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Commissioning the Twelve

Now He was going around the villages in a circuit, teaching. He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out in pairs and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the road except a walking stick: no bread, no traveling bag, no money in their belts.They were to wear sandals, but not put on an extra shirt. 10 Then He said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that place.11 If any place does not welcome you and people refuse to listen to you, when you leave there, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”[a]

12 So they went out and preached that people should repent. 13 And they were driving out many demons, anointing many sick people with olive oil,and healing them.

Matthew 10:16-25Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Persecutions Predicted

16 “Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves. 17 Because people will hand you over to sanhedrins[a] and flog you in their synagogues, beware of them. 18 You will even be brought before governors and kings because of Me, to bear witness to them and to the nations. 19 But when they hand you over, don’t worry about how or what you should speak. For you will be given what to say at that hour, 20 because you are not speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is speaking through you.
21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will even rise up against their parents and have them put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered.[b] 23 When they persecute you in one town, escape to another.For I assure you: You will not have covered the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 24 A disciple[c] is not above his teacher, or a slave above his master. 25 It is enough for a disciple to become like his teacher and a slave like his master. If they called the head of the house ‘Beelzebul,’ how much more the members of his household!

Matthew 10:40-42Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

A Cup of Cold Water

40 “The one who welcomes you welcomes Me, and the one who welcomes Me welcomes Him who sent Me.41 Anyone who[a] welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet[b] will receive a prophet’s reward. And anyone who[c] welcomes a righteous person because he’s righteous[d] will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple[e]—I assure you: He will never lose his reward!”

Luke 6:17-19Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Teaching and Healing

17 After coming down with them, He stood on a level place with a large crowd of His disciples and a great number of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon. 18 They came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those tormented by unclean spirits were made well.19 The whole crowd was trying to touch Him,because power was coming out from Him and healing them all.

Luke 9:1-6Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Commissioning the Twelve

Summoning the Twelve, He gave them power and authority over all the demons, and power to heal[a] diseases. Then He sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

“Take nothing for the road,” He told them, “no walking stick, no traveling bag, no bread, no money; and don’t take an extra shirt. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there.If they do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” So they went out and traveled from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.
